Iran says US blockade will fail as Trump weighs new military options

Iran warned that the US naval blockade is “doomed to fail,” as tensions escalate and Washington considers new military action, according to Al Arabiya English.

President Masoud Pezeshkian said the blockade violates international law and threatens stability in the Gulf.

Oil prices surge

The standoff has shaken global energy markets.

Brent crude jumped more than 7% to over $126 per barrel, reaching a four-year high, the report said.

The crisis centers on the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for around 20% of global oil and LNG shipments.

Escalating standoff at sea

The United States imposed a blockade on Iranian ports earlier this month, while Iran continues to control access through the Strait of Hormuz.

United States Central Command said it has redirected dozens of vessels attempting to pass, leaving millions of barrels of oil unable to reach markets.

President Donald Trump signaled the blockade could remain in place for months to pressure Iran over its nuclear program.

Military options under review

At the same time, Trump is expected to receive a briefing from CENTCOM chief Brad Cooper on potential next steps, according to Axios.

The report said options include:

  • A “short and powerful” wave of strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure
  • Securing parts of the Strait of Hormuz to reopen shipping routes
  • Special operations to secure enriched uranium stockpiles

Senior officials, including Dan Caine, are expected to attend the briefing.

Talks remain stalled

Iran has proposed easing its control over the strait if the US lifts the blockade, Iranian media reported.

Washington has rejected the offer and insists nuclear issues must be part of any agreement.

Economic pressure on both sides

Iran’s economy is under strain, with its currency falling to record lows against the dollar, according to the report.

At the same time, rising oil prices are increasing costs for consumers and adding political pressure in the US.

Wider regional impact

The conflict continues to affect the wider region.

Clashes persist in Lebanon despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, with casualties reported by local authorities.

Officials warn the situation could turn into a prolonged “frozen conflict,” with lasting consequences for global trade and energy supply.
